Auditions
THE PARK ROAD PLAYHOUSE
IS LOOKING FOR
THE FUNNIEST, CLEVEREST,
MOST TALENTED TEENS
IN GREATER HARTFORD
WHO DON’T SING OR DANCE!
There’s a brand new group being formed to produce a live stage production this summer of one of the funniest television shows of all time. The group, which will be appropriately named, “THE UP ‘N COMERS” is for young people 13 to 19. The material they will be performing was a smash sensation before any of them were born. It is the actual scripts from Rowan and Martin’s LAUGH-IN. They will be able to research this by asking their parents all about it or checking it out on YouTube.
The show was characterized by a rapid-fire series of gags and sketches, many of which were politically charged. Laugh-In had its roots in the humor of vaudeville and burlesque, and was the forerunner to Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report. The script will include the original sketches plus updated material more appropriate to the times.
Auditions will be held at the Park Road Playhouse on Monday, May 12th and May 19th, beginning at 6:30 p.m. To try out, teens are requested to prepare a minute and a half to three minute stand-up performance of jokes, funny stories, weird voices, funny faces – anything goes as long as it’s clean!
In addition to auditioning, positions are open for all kinds of backstage opportunities including stage managing, lighting, sound, set construction and painting, costuming, prop managers, etc. We are also seeking very bright, very clever, very funny people who can write funny stuff. Political. Topical. Local. Whatever you can satirize… works! Just check off the appropriate box on the application form and we’ll take it from there. By the way…there’s no fee for either auditioning or performing.
Performances are scheduled for July 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26. For additional information call The Playhouse at 860-586-8500.
