Introduction to Improvisation
Want to have the time of your life? Come learn the basics of improvisational theater. Discover how to actively listen, to use your own life to create stories, and to avoid common thoughts and communication patterns. The class will focus on the fundamental principles of improvisation with emphasis on scene building skills and having fun.
Maximum 12 students
Tuesdays, 7:00-10:00 pm, 9/16 – 11/18 (no class 10/7)
Cost of semester: $200
Intermediate Improvisation
This class continues work on the fundamental principles of improvisation
while introducing more short-form improv games and long-form formats. The
class will focus on concepts such as Status, Tilt and Re-incorporation and
explore using the environment and non-linear narrative. Emphasis on
character work and playing with commitment. Performance at end of class.
Prerequisite - Intro to Improvisation

Sundays, 6:30-9:30 pm, 9/14-11/19
Cost of semester: $200
Advanced Improvisation
This class will hone the skills of the more advanced improviser. The class
will explore narrative and address individual strengths as well as areas
that need improvement. Students will learn to sustain a more complex
narrative using all of the skills learned in previous classes. Focus will be
on long-form improv forms including Harold. Performance at end of class.

 CLAIRE ZICK
moved to West Hartford from Seattle where she was an ensemble member at Unexpected Productions, Seattle’s first and most reputable improv theater company. She performed weekly in Seattle Theatresports™ and long-form shows such as Harold, Spoken, Blank Slate, Fakespeare, The Melanie Game, Campfire, A(n) Improvised Christmas Carol, Black Eyed Blonde, Impressionistic Horror, and improvised versions of movie genres. She was also the Assistant Artistic Director and only female member of Sisters of Sal, a long-form improvisational comedy troupe that won Seattle CageMatch and performed with Ryan Stiles. She has studied improv with Randy Dixon, Matt Smith, Jill Farris, and Armando Diaz and attended workshops with Keith Johnstone and Mick Napier. At The Playhouse, she has appeared in Arsenic and Old Lace and Lend Me a Tenor and has been seen in both scripted and improv productions in other theaters around the state.
